Danielle Smith wants to build a West Coast pipeline. We can’t afford another publicly funded pipeline that would fuel the climate crisis while enriching fossil fuel executives and foreign billionaires. Over the past 15 years, we have stood shoulder to shoulder with First Nations and environmental allies to stop pipelines and oil train projects that seemed inevitable. Together, action by action, we can build a mass movement to stop this one too.

The MOU he just finalized with Danielle Smith is the final nail in the coffin for Canada’s climate policy. He is greenlighting another toxic tar sands pipeline, enabling megaprojects to bypass key environmental regulations, and subsidizing the same Big Oil billionaires who are reaping record profits at our expense. 

Carney is lying to us by saying that all these gifts to the fossil fuel industry somehow serve our national interest. But this destructive agenda threatens the health of our communities, the survival of our wildlife, and the future of our planet – all while costing us billions of dollars and tying our economy to a volatile and exploitative industry.

Enough. We need our government to sign a People’s MOU: a new deal to protect our communities and our future.

Tell BC: Fund local climate disaster prevention

The province of BC is cutting funding for local climate and wildfire preparedness programs and failing to implement critical flood mitigation strategies — at a time when climate impacts are intensifying. Tell the BC government to spend what is required to keep our communities safe from the increasing threats of climate change.

The Province must:

1. Reinstate and expand the Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP),

2. Fund implementation of the flood management strategy, and

3. Commit to long-term FireSmart funding

Take action now to tell your MLA, and the relevant Ministers: Keeping us safe from climate change is the priority.

Participate in the Tilbury LNG Expansion Effects Assessment Before July 27th!

The Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion project is in the effects assessment and recommendation phase, where the EAO develops the draft assessment report and draft environmental assessment certificate, including proposed conditions and project description (that would be used if the project is approved to proceed). The EAO is seeking feedback on these drafts to ensure they accurately represent potential effects from the project and that the proposed conditions to offset these effects would work as intended.

We realize this engagement process is very complex, overwhelming and inaccessible. The organization Stand.earth has created a toolkit to help you participate in the engagement period more easily!

Protect Vancouver’s climate progress on buildings

For decades, Vancouver has been recognized as a leader in climate action and green buildings. That’s why it was so disappointing when City Council – despite massive public backlash – recently voted to weaken key climate policies and bring methane gas back into new buildings. We’re already seeing this rollback embolden fossil fuel lobbyists and undermine efforts by other municipalities working to reduce pollution and build cleaner, healthier homes.
Climate progress cannot depend on the politics of a single city hall. If we want lasting progress, senior governments must step up and provide clear, consistent leadership. And both the British Columbia and the federal government have the policy tools to do this and provide the climate-safe and affordable housing we need.

Tell the Federal Government before July 22nd: Don’t weaken Canada’s Environmental Laws

The federal government is proposing sweeping changes to Canada’s environmental laws that could make it easier to fast-track major industrial projects while weakening the safeguards that protect our water, wildlife, communities, and climate.

Some of the proposals are deeply concerning. They would give Cabinet new powers to approve projects before independent environmental reviews are complete, weaken federal oversight, and even allow politicians to exempt projects from key protections for endangered species. That could put iconic species like Southern Resident killer whales and caribou at even greater risk.

These laws exist for a reason. Past failures have left Canadians with mercury poisoning at Grassy Narrows, contaminated waterways, abandoned mines, and toxic industrial sites that communities are still living with decades later. Strong environmental assessments help prevent these costly mistakes before they happen.

Canada can build the infrastructure we need without cutting corners. Tell the federal government to strengthen – not weaken – environmental protections, uphold Indigenous rights, and ensure decisions about major projects are based on evidence, transparency, and the public interest.

Tell Carney: NO MORE PIPELINES

You can’t make this up. As a fossil-fueled climate change heatwave scorches communities across the country, Premier Danielle Smith just submitted a proposal for a $35 billion Alberta-to-the-West Coast pipeline to Carney’s Major Project Office. 

It’s crystal clear: Smith wants to fast-track this project and wants the public dollars to buy it. And it makes no sense. While the rest of the world is moving towards renewable energy, Smith wants to hitch our wagon to a dying fossil fuel industry. We know it’s only going to line the pockets of foreign fossil fuel executives – while the rest of us pay for it.

It’s time to show the Carney government that this pipeline is not what the people of Canada want – not for our economy, our climate, or our futures. If we can generate enough public pressure and flood key decision-makers, we can stop this project before it starts.
